Recommend A…Book That Reminds You of Summer!

My choice this week is: Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt

Doomed to – or blessed with – eternal life after drinking from a magic spring, the Tuck family wanders about trying to live as inconspicuously and comfortably as they can. When ten-year-old Winnie Foster stumbles on their secret, the Tucks take her home and explain why living forever at one age is less a blessing that it might seem. Complications arise when Winnie is followed by a stranger who wants to market the spring water for a fortune.

I don’t know what it is about this book but it just reminds me of the relaxing days of summer. Perhaps it is the ability to live forever that makes me think of a care free summer full of joy and happiness.

Recommend A…Book You Read on a Vacation!

My choice this week is The Sookie Stackhouse Series by Charlaine Harris

These books are quick, entertaining and easy reads. I flew threw two of them on my flight to Texas last summer. They are really fun books that you don’t have to think too much about so they are perfect to read on vacation! Plus, Eric is a hottie.

Recommend A…Blog That is Similar to Yours!

My choice this week is my dear friend Heidi’s blog: Bunbury in the Stacks.

Not only does she have awesome taste in books, she is witty, funny and participates (and creates) some pretty awesome features. One of my favorites is titled “Salute Your Shorts” (best name ever, I know) which highlights and reviews short stories and novellas!

Heidi enjoys numerous genres and reviews books both in print and audio format so as a follower you are able to read about many different genres and most importantly, discover awesome new authors! Head on over to Heidi’s blog and say hello, I know she’d love to hear from you!

Recommend A…Book With a Character Who Plays a Sport!

My choice this week is: The Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling

I know some of you are thinking “uhhh Harry Potter…really?!” First of all, there are still people who have not yet experienced the phenomenal journey that is Harry Potter. Second, Quidditch is totally a sport. Finally, I realized while writing this post that I haven’t read any books featuring a muggle who plays a sport. It’s embarrassing, really.

So, to those of you who have read and enjoyed Harry Potter tell me something nice about the series. A favorite part or quote perhaps? A reason why those who have not yet read the series should pick it up immediately? Your choice, my friends! To those of you who have yet to read these wonderful books, I truly encourage you to do so as soon as possible.

Recommend A…Book By A Debut Author!

My choice this week is: Storybound by Marissa Burt

This is a book I originally picked up for my Debut Author Challenge and I loved it! From page two this story drew me in. Marissa Burt writes a fantastic and beautiful narrative. I highly recommend it to those who enjoyed Breadcrumbs by Anne Ursu, or those looking for a story that reminds them about all of the things that they love about fairy tales.

Recommend A…Book With a Blue Cover!

My choice this week is Lost Voices by Sarah Porter!

This novel is a new twist on a somewhat warped coming of age story. Luce begins finding herself after a traumatic event spirals her into what she believes is a point of no return. A refreshing difference in this novel is that there is no romantic relationship; it is not a story that centers on a romance. Instead, the relationships are between the girls in the mermaid tribe and many characters are fleshed out enough that you learn to appreciate their individual characteristics. Sarah Porter’s debut novel is the first in a very promising new series; the sequel, Waking Storms was published on July 3, 2012. See my review of Lost Voices, here.

Recommend A…Book That Someone Recommended To You!

My choice this week is Scarlet by A.C. Gaughen

This book was recommended to me by my friend Heidi, over at Bunbury in the Stacks. It is easily one of my favorite reads of 2012. At one point the bf walked in, glanced at me and said, “Are you petting that book?!” and it turns out, I was. I was petting the book because that is precisely how much I loved it. It was a book that made me feel as if it was written just for me to enjoy, bringing me into the dark canopy of the trees of Nottinghamshire. See my review, here.

Recommend A…First Book in a Series!

My choice this week is Grave Mercy by R.L. LaFevers

The book follows Ismae, a desperate girl who has just been sold to an abusive man by her cruel father. When her new husband sees the mark on her back from poison her mother took to attempt to abort her in the womb he becomes enraged, knowing that she is marked by Death himself. He immediately goes to find a priest to “cleanse” her and she manages to escape with some help to St. Mortain’s convent. However, this is no ordinary convent; the sisters here are trained to become assassins for Mortain, the Saint of Death. They are taught everything they need to know to become Death’s handmaidens and deliver vengeance to those who put Brittany in danger. Ismae does her job thoroughly and soon crosses the path of Duval and as their plans become intertwined they learn what it takes to trust and come to understand that the price of honor isn’t as easy as they thought.

This one might be cheating a teeny bit since technically the His Fair Assassin “series” is really going to be companion novels instead of a series of continuations but it’s still one of my favorite books EVER and it’s ridiculously amazing, so go read it right now.

Recommend A…Book You Read This Year!!

My choice this week is Dragonswood by Janet Lee Carey

I loved the plot twists and the introduction of the fae into the already dragon ridden world that Tess lives in. It was interesting to see how strong Tess was when she was given everything she thought she wanted and how she weighed it against what it would cost her. I also adored the love story of this novel. It was not instantaneous which always makes me very happy but it was gradual and heartbreaking and strong and most importantly, it was believable. I wanted more from this love, though the author provided just enough to make it beautiful and lasting in my mind.

Recommend A…Book Published in 2010!!

My Choice this week is Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion

“R is a zombie. He has no name, no memories, and no pulse, but he has dreams. He is a little different from his fellow dead.” There will be no blood sucking vampires or mysterious werewolves, instead there is a main character who eats brains! Brains, because, you know, HE IS A ZOMBIE! As you get further into the story you find that R is a different kind of zombie (are you a good witch, or a bad witch?) and he becomes one of the most lovable characters I have ever met. Isaac Marion is a brilliant author and he is pretty hilarious, you can find him on Twitter, or on his blog, Burning Building.
